En honor a aquellos que dijeron “I quit” al Virreinato Español, vamos a hablar de cómo tener la conversación de resignación. Puede ser una de las más duras e incómodas de una carrera, pero no tiene que estar así.
Make sure your mind is made up before any conversation. The resignation convo is not a time to chat about your frustrations at work, or that maybe you will be looking somewhere else. It’s too late for those. You need to enter the chat with your mind made up.
Have talking points prepared. It's a tough conversation. Your boss might be way more experienced. So it's normal that you could forget what you were going to say. The solution? Have some talking points. A “talking point” is not a full text that you robotically repeat. It’s just a few lines that you know by heart that you can come back to.
I wanted to move into management, and I found a job that lets me do that.
My goal is to work with XXX technology, and I needed to make the switch to a company that focuses on that.
I want a better work-life balance, and have found another job that gives me more flexibility.
Be firm, but gracious. You need to make sure your boss knows that your mind is made up, but at the same time that the job was truly beneficial to you, and that you appreciate it. Make sure you emphasize both that the resignation will happen, and that you are very thankful for the opportunity.
Make sure the transition happens smoothly. You don’t want to be known as the guy or girl who left the company in its darkest hour. It's a small job market out there, and your name will get around. So be helpful. Do your part to help interview your replacement, or at least make sure your colleagues have your job covered.
GringoJobs finally has...actual jobs! I’m trying to figure out the best way to set this up, and there will be more soon. Curious to hear any thoughts about what you would like to see.
CSC Generation is an interesting company. They buy eCommerce brands with strong recognition but often really bad or outdated tech, and they apply their own expertise to make them profitable. There are many legacy brands that have no chance of competing against Amazon but who have loyal followers. That is where CSC comes in.
Here is what they are looking for -
Senior Full Stack dev - Node/React mostly (some Python)
Focus on building the eCommerce tech that powers multiple brands
Based in Mexico. Working closely with the CTO in Austin.
Ideally, CDMX - but they are open to someone who is somewhere else.
